Not All Angels Have Wings :D
It's a privilege to be able to help people. Not everyone is "wealthy" enough so lend a hand. In this context, wealthy actually means to go extra miles to show compassion, love and sympathy to those in needs. You don't need to be rich in order to help people out, being magnanimous, clement and benevolent.
Few weeks before I entered Form 6, I decided that I want to learn to be grateful of what I have. Therefore, I participated in a charity event which was an event held by KECHARA Soup Kitchen. It is a non-profit organization which helps out the clients (or what we call as homeless) in terms of food, water, basic medication treatment, and even looking out for job opportunities for them.
In my opinion, being homeless is not by choice. But giving up upon yourself, is in fact what you choose. To me, if there is a roof on top of your head, food on your table, family members around you, you are rich. Get me right, not everyone has a cozy home where they can go back to after a bad day, not everyone gets their stomachs filled, not everyone...has a complete family. Be grateful for what you have.
On that day, we were stationed in a small hall which was surrounded by fences. Before we start, there was already a huge amount of them (about 100-200)outside patiently waiting for their recess time? (I really don't know how you address that event, I am sorry for lacking in my vocabs!) When the gate was opened, they formed a beeline while queuing to obtain their food. But on the other hand, the clothing station was in a mess that only the word 'Pasar Malam' can describe it! They took what they were in favor of, and tossed what they dislike. I kinda dislike this part though, when you are in a predicament, you don't really get to choose, take what people offer you, don't be picky!

Doing some simple registrations for the clients :) |
That day, I felt really awful...not because of the clients, but because of me, myself. Can you imagine, taking shelters outside at a hallway? How can they even survive NOT HAVING WIFI?! (OK, I am just joking, don't be pissed off!) Life is not always a bed of roses. In the conversation between me and the client, he told me that he had a bad relationship with his wife. According to him, he couldn't stand his bad tempered wife who always blame him for the poor/bad life they are living. Thus, he rather leave the house and stray around KL than being forced to face someone like her. It left an indelible impression on me mainly because he looked so peaceful, calm and maybe at serenity? I think this is something worth pondering. Happiness is also a choice. He chose to leave the house in search for peace while conversely, some people respond by taking part in domestic violence, abusing their family members like they are some kind punching bags. Nevertheless, they are the perfect example of douche bags in life! Needless to say, violence is not an option, to all the men out there, answering by knuckles and fists will never gain you respect.
In brief, I don't think I am truly able to see what their lives really are in just one day. It is too short for me, I hope someday, maybe some day I can just live on the street for just a week, without money, home or an Identification Card. (Secretly adding it into my bucket list hehe) Homeless or refugees, rich or poor, regardless, we are all humans. Who would help us if we ourselves don't? What if one day you become the person in need of help? What if you become desperate and devastated? And realize no one is there to aid you...how would it feel like? Think about it. Appreciate what you have in life! Cause ain't nobody can have a taste of your beautiful life, cause..there are so many people out there wanting to be you...
Travelling around the world seems to be a good idea, but do you know what is even better? Travelling using your own money, not you parents'.
Stop bragging about what you have because having able to live the life you have now is solely because of your parents. So be thankful to your parents, they are the reason you get to hang a smile on your face.
'KFC may be something you eat every week, but some people still view it as a birthday treat.' Luxury is subjective. -plucked from twitter-
Mineral water bottle may seem cheap here in Malaysia, but do you know it costs 80-350 rupees for a small bottle in Nepal? (After converting is RM 5.33 to RM 23.30) You are showered in blessings subconsciously, you just do not know about it.

If you look at what you have in life, you will always have more. If you look at what you don't have in life, you will never have enough.
Be grateful.
